South Carolina's extreme metal band Voraath has suffered a significant loss with the death of their drummer Joshua "Nassaru" Ward at the age of 37 following a traffic accident.
Joshua spent much of his life in various metal bands, achieving success with Voraath, who released their sole full album this past June. The album, "Vol. 1 The Hymn of the Hunters," was progressively gaining success, reaching Number 13 in "the best album of the year" by the Great Metal Debate.
On the night of December 31st, 2024, Ward, his fiancée, and two friends were leaving a private driveway when they were hit by a drunk driver, Nicholas Shane Meeks. All four occupants of Ward's vehicle were killed. Meeks has been arrested and charged with four counts of felony DUI involving death, as well as driving with a suspended license, which was revoked after a previous DUI in March 2024.
A GoFundMe has been set up to cover funeral expenses and support Josh's son. https://www.gofundme.com/f/remembering-josh-ward-music-and-martial-arts?attribution_id=sl:822c1e7e-4bbf-420c-9109-36f18baa2ecb&utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&utm_medium=customer&utm_source=copy_link&fbclid=IwY2xjawHiuCtleHRuA2FlbQIxMAABHfyQp5Ikjok3rPe0odEL05mRQ0xsTSn0MFyYxIJoNF-Y880PT1hOZSsM1w_aem_VrxsMANm6zjlVt18MvnwPg
